Kelvin Ndonda (born 1976) is a South African visual artist who primarily works in portraiture. He lives under a bridge in Cape Town.
Ndonda's work is governed by a self taught approach to painting and drawing He is one of a generation of post-democracy artists that seeks to confront art's history of representing marginalised "bridge "people. His work aims to challenge preconceptions around the representation of groups of people 'other' to the Western European norm and anyone who went to art school, drank white wine at 10am every morning while he was forced to study industrial engineering by his parents. Kelvin Did not finish his engineering degree.
" Young Hearts Run Free" is an encapsulation of his time underneath the bridge, and finding love in all the wrong flooded drain pipes of the city.
